WHAT’S YOUR EXPERIENCE BEING BLACK IN AMERICA?
“What is your experience being Black in America?” challenges the accessibility of exhibitions and creates a space for people to control the narrative of how black people’s stories are told; It also brings to light issues that are in our individual communities that affect the culture as a whole.
In this exhibition, we've asked participants "What's your experience being black in America?" Below, under entries, is their responses. Many participants treated their entries as if they were writing their story into a diary, because of this, all participants' portraits are blank. This leaves room for you as the viewer to put yourself in the person's shoes. These are not only their entries but the entries of the shared black experience so their portrait is to be seen as your own
