america is black: how blackness created the american sound

(Sample Exhibition)

America Is Black: How Blackness Created the American Sound focuses on the history of African American culture and the progression of music in America through the lens of fashion. The goal of this exhibition is to explore the influence black culture and black music has had on creating American culture, image, and sound.

Displayed in some of the black squares are excerpts and anecdotes from the “What is your experience being black in America?” digital exhibition. Guests had the opportunity to be a part of this exhibition by submitting their experience of being black or what they think about race and the treatment of black people in America.

This sample exhibition was displayed at Parsons School of Design during their Fashion Senior Thesis Exhibition Show of May 2019.
